WIAA State Championships - Day Three

The final day of competition at the 2019 State Track & Field Championships did not disappoint.

After leaving state a year ago disappointed with her 3200 meter race in the blistering afternoon heat, sophomore Roz Slichko returned with a plan. Starting out near the back of the field for much of the first half of the race, Slichko’s patience and strength paid off as she picked off one runner at a time as she moved her way into medal contention over the last few laps of the race. When all was said and done, Slichko had covered the eight rainy laps in a school record time of 10:57.15 and earned a spot on the podium with a seventh place finish. The ecstatic sophomore celebrated with a much deserved trip to Chick-fil-A for a greasy burger, fries, and a milkshake! This marks the fourth time that Slichko has competed at the State Championships in four attempts between cross country and track & field. A family affair, Slichko has now equaled her big brother’s best finish at state in the same event and they combine to hold both of our 3200 meter school records (the proud big brother was there to cheer her on today).
