First Annual South Sound Classic
Saturday saw even more highlights at the South Sound Track & Field Classic.
Ellie Peterson, who had been knocking on the door of the women’s school record in the discus all year, threw a lifetime best of over 5’ to cement herself at the top of the all-time list with a throw of 109’5”, passing Hailie Palafox’s school record of 104’7” established in 2017. Peterson followed that up with a big lifetime best in the javelin as well, throwing 107’7” to move into #2 on the all-time list, trailing only JAG Hall-of-Famer Jessica Brodie-Hansen.
The other big mark of the day came from freshman Asher Ogden, who ran the #8 all-time mark for a freshman in Washington state history, earning a second place finish in a time of 15.34 in the men’s 110 hurdles.
Roz Slichko also broke 2:20 for the first time in the 800, running 2:18.99 for fourth place, catapulting her from #7 all-time to #2 all-time, trailing only Carly Wilczynski’s 2011 time of 2:15.96.
Other athletes earning personal bests on Saturday included: Yahir Gonzalez (100M & 400M), Nicc Cruz (200M), Tommy Wirth (800M), Bryant Yabes (800M), Lucas Johnson (1600M), Xander Storts (Javelin), Taylor Stilli (400M), Emily Wells (3200M - #5 all-time), and Carley Huber (300H).
